Why Some Small Businesses Succeed Where Others Fail

Hello and welcome to my blog on all topics related to business. I come from a long line of entrepreneurs. I am one of a few members of my family who have not yet started a business, though that doesn't mean I won't try in the future. My name is Stacy Pascal and I have spent years interrogating family members in order to find out everything I can about what it is like to run a business. I have decided to start blogging about business topics just for fun and so that I can hopefully help someone start and run a successful business.

Tossing Your Trash: Renting the Right Type of Dumpster for the Job

When it comes to the topic of roll-off containers or dumpsters as they are commonly called, many people mistakenly believe that all containers are created equal. After all, most dumpsters all look alike. However, while all dumpsters may look the same from the outside, what you are allowed to put inside them can vary dramatically depending on what type of container you choose to rent.

Commercial Roll-Off Containers

Businesses typically create much larger volumes of trash each week than the average household. Therefore, they require more space to dispose of this trash than a standard waste receptacle will provide. In these situations, a commercial roll-off container or dumpster often provides the perfect solution.

Commercial dumpsters are designed to house everyday waste materials. They are not designed to house construction materials, large furniture, electronics, or hazardous waste. Disposing of these forbidden substances in a commercial roll-off container can result in additional fees being charged by your waste management company.

Construction/Demolition Roll-Off Containers

If you are planning to take on a remodeling or demolition project, you will need to rent a dumpster that is designed specifically for this purpose. Since construction materials can contain compounds that are dangerous for standard disposal, it is vital that you secure the right type of roll-off container when disposing of these items.

Unlike a commercial dumpster that is intended to house everyday waste, construction containers will often prohibit the disposal of these types of waste. This is because food waste and other common waste products can attract rodents and insects that are not commonly attracted to the types of waste that these dumpsters are intended to house. This can make the disposal of these materials far more complicated for the waste management company and therefore result in hefty fees.

Locked Containers

If your roll-off container will be placed in an area where the general public is able to easily access it, you may want to consider spending a bit more to rent a container that has the ability to be locked. This will allow you to effectively prevent individuals from dumping forbidden items in your dumpster without your permission. If you fail to take steps to prevent this type of unauthorized dumping, you will ultimately be held financially responsible for the disposal of any items that are placed inside your dumpster. The cost of additional fees for disposing of forbidden items can quickly outweigh the small increase in cost associated with renting a secured container.
